Fundraisers-- Only 20%?!

The majority of my career has been in the nonprofit sector. Monetary donations are legitimately the only way charities can continue to do business. And there is no shortage of companies wanting to help their favorite cause raise money. However, the way in which they do it, often benefits them more than the nonprofit.

Without naming names, I’ll just say that I’ve attended my fair share of restaurant nights where 20% of the proceeds goes to the organization. Band programs, cheerleading squads, baseball teams, and other worthy causes need money to keep their kids engaged. So the restaurant chooses a night they would have had very little foot traffic and asks that families travel to their place, spend their own money, so that only a tiny percentage can go back to their students. You would be much better off if parents just directly gave you the $40 they were going to spend on Monday to eat mediocre orange chicken.
The biggest benefit to these types of fundraisers is that they are relatively easy for the organizations. All they have to do is send emails or flyers to their friends and family then cross their fingers that they’re available from 5-8 pm on Tuesday. Maybe the restaurant makes $500 from your sales and then gives you 20% back, only $100.
Oof. It feels like you should have earned way more, right?
If this is still the best option for you, then go for it.
But Virtually Good Trivia offers something much better…
For one flat rate, VGT will host a one-hour online trivia event for up to 100 of your biggest supporters. You get to decide how much to charge per ticket. The less you charge, the more tickets you need to sell. And everyone gets to participate from the comfort of their own home!
Here are a few examples…
Price Per Ticket Maximum Participants (100) Minimum Tickets
(your profit) to break even
$50 $5000-$750= $4250 or 85% 15 tix
$30 $3000-$750= $2250 or 75% 25 tix
$25 $2500- $750= $1750 or 70% 30 tix
$10 $1000-$750= $250 or 25% 75 tix
If your organization charges $30 per participant, you will break even as long as you sell 25 tickets. 25 doesn’t seem like too much of a challenge, does it? Any tickets you sell on top of that goes straight to your organization. In this scenario, the group could make up to $2,250 if they sell all 100 tickets. Technically, the people who buy tickets don’t even have to attend the virtual event but it’s way more exciting if they do! Kids can email their grandparents in another state or ask their cousins in Europe to get in on the fun.
VGT sells the tickets from their website, which means none of the students or teachers have to collect money. They just give their donors the website link and they’re done! The links to play the game and reminders to attend come from VGT, too. This is just as simple as those restaurant fundraisers but with a guaranteed bigger payout.
To explore this lucrative opportunity, fill out an interest form and have a 15-30 min virtual meeting with the VGT team. We’d be happy to answer any questions you may have.

*Organizations must prove they are a 501c3, government, religious, or school affiliated group to host a VGT fundraiser.
